ARTIST. MUSICIAN. LEGEND.
"Furly" Travis is a native Texas painter and sketch artist. He began sketching in junior high school, and began painting seriously in 1992.
During his TWENTY + years of painting, he has developed a unique style using bold color and a strong sense of visual balance coupled with often dreamlike, sometimes comic themes.
Working almost exclusively in acrylics allows him to work prolifically, and to date, has sold over two hundred paintings and sketches, as well as being commissioned to create over Forty different pieces for collectors.
His works have been shown in art spaces all over central Texas, from galleries to boutiques and coffee houses.
His comics and sketches have appeared regularly for many years in the "Proper Gander", San Marcos' own art publication that traveled nationwide to reach art audiences.
He was also the subject for the annual "Proper Gander Furly Portrait Contest", in which the winner got a self portrait by Yours truly.
Throughout the years, Furly has recorded and released 11 albums under his "Unsurpassed Profit" moniker. Warping the minds and melting the faces of any poor soul lucky enough to bless their ears with his grimy, lo-fi psychedelic sound.
Furly has even dabbled a bit in acting in recent years.
Starring and co-starring in the award-winning short films "Terrence" (about a middle-aged ventriloquist who begins a love affair with an underaged fan) "Best Served Cold" (As a menacing pederast) and "Whimsy & Hester" (a whippet-addicted suburban father of conjoined twins) as well as writing and directing his own film, "The Failed Artist".
